Newborn

So, let’s talk about your newborn session.

Newborns are a one of a kind session that requires training in posing and handling your tiny babies. I have attended training workshops with various photographers over the years so I can confidently and safely do my job.

You can book your due date in from as early as your first scan, then once your beautiful baby has arrived we’ll get the session booked in for a date within 2-3 weeks. Why so soon? Because this is when your baby is at their sleepiest and also still very curled up so I can achieve those adorable poses. We will then discuss what colours you would like to be used, I usually suggest picking 2-3 and think about the colours in your home.

A newborn session can last anywhere between 90 minutes to 3 hours. Babies need fed, changed and cuddled during their session so we need plenty of time to work with them.

Siblings (and even dogs) of course are allowed to come along to get some photos with their new baby brother or sister. I’m use to working with siblings of all ages, sometimes a bit of camera trickery is required to get that winning shot. After these have been achieved I then advise that siblings get taken away as young children tend to get super bored super quickly, as I’m sure you can imagine!

When you first arrive in the studio it’ll feel like you have arrived in Spain. It will be very warm! A warm studio is a must to keep baby happy and sleepy so please don’t over dress.

Now to the important bit. Newborn sessions are baby-led. This means that baby will be in charge of what they do and don’t want to do and he/she will certainly let us know all about it. My most important tool in a newborn session is wraps, babies absolutely love to be swaddled up nice and tight as this makes them feel safe and warm. I will do a large amount of the session having baby wrapped as this keeps the session running smoothly and a happy sleepy baby. Of course I will do unwrapped shots too as long as baby allows, he/she is the boss!

Mummies & Daddies are encouraged to get involved in the photos. And if you’re not keen, it can be as simple as silhouette shots or your hands wrapped around baby. You will most definitely be included.
